Upcoming hatchback cars in India 2020 with expected prices and launch dates

 As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the global automobile industries have experienced such a drag. India was not an exception as a majority of carmakers had to delay their new model launches in the first half of 2020. However, the Indian car market seems to gradually regain its vibrancy in the second half of the year. Here is the list of upcoming hatchback cars in India 2020, including their expected price, launch date, and information.

1. Hyundai Elite i20 2020

Expected Launch: October 15, 2020

Expected Price: Rs. 5.60 Lakh

The Hyundai Elite i20 is among one of the most looked-for upcoming hatchback cars in India 2020. The third-gen i20 was officially revealed online in February 2020 followed by a sneak peek of its interior. From the unveiled images of the Euro-spec model, the premium-looking hatchback is likely to be equipped with an all-black cabin and the neon green highlights as seen in Hyundai’s official sketches. While the Euro-spec sports a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, it is likely that the India-spec model will come with a digital instrument cluster as witnessed in the facelifted Verna and an 8-inch infotainment system. The AC vents and the climate controls are also integrated into the new dashboard layout which makes the third-gen i20 feel more spacious.

The Hyundai Elite i20 will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engines mated to an auto transmission option. The Elite i20 is likely to be launched in the expected price range of Rs. 5.60 Lakh by October 2020. When launched, the hatchback will rival against the upcoming Maruti Suzuki model in India 2020 called the Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is also expected to be launched soon this October.

2. Renault Kiger (HBC)

Expected Launch: October 15, 2020

Expected Price: Rs. 9.00 Lakh

Along with the Hyundai Elite i20, the Swift, and among others, Renault Kiger will join the competition for upcoming hatchback cars in India in October 2020. Even though the hatchback is heavily based on the Triber, the Kiger looks more premium and more SUV-centric thanks to its stylish camouflage design at the rear end and its innovative taillamps. Under the influence of the Triber, Renault Kiger sports a cabin which is spacious enough to fit three rows of seats inside. Besides, the upcoming hatchback is likely to come with comforts such as auto AC, rear AC vents, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For safety concerns, the Kiger will boast of four airbags.

Renault Kiger will be powered by the Triber’s 1.0-litre petrol engine and a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual and an optional CVT automatic transmission. The Kiger is likely to be ready to compete with its rivals in its production-ready avatar in October 2020.

3. Tata Altroz EV

Expected Launch: December 15, 2020

Expected Price: Rs. 14.00 Lakh

One of the long-awaited upcoming hatchback cars in India 2020 is the Tata Altroz EV. The new EV is the electric version of Tata’s first premium hatchback launched back in July 2019. At first glance, Tata Altroz EV stands out with a premium-looking front grille seen on most of the top cars. On the inside, the electric model comes with a flat floor which makes its cabin more spacious than the previous Tata Altroz variants. Besides, Altroz EV is likely to get features like a semi-digital instrument cluster, auto AC, and connected car tech.

Performance-wise, the Tata Altroz EV will come with a battery pack close to 30kWh capacity which allows the model to reach up to 300 km on a single charge. Overall, it will take about one hour to juice up the battery to 80% using a fast charger. Tata Altroz EV is likely to hit the market at Rs. 14.00 Lakh (ex-showroom price) in December 2020. It is also the only premium electric hatchback to be launched around this time.
